I didn’t know this was going on. I can’t believe it. Well maybe I can.
A funeral for a local soldier killed in Iraq was picketed by anti-gay protesters. They claim that God is killing American soldiers because the country tolerates gays. A photo in the paper showed them with a sign that said, “Thank God of IEDs.” I’m completely stunned by the hatefulness and heartlessness of these people who would use this ultimately personal and private event to spew their hateful message. In the name of Jesus. In the name of the Christianity that I was taught to believe was loving, gracious and forgiving.
There is a faction in the country that feels that if you are against the war, you’re unpatriotic and unsupportive of our troops. I’m of the opinion you can hate the war but love the soldiers. Whether you agree with the country’s decision or not, you have to respect the young men and women who put life and limb in danger because their country asked them to. I don’t see that protesting a war is unnecessary, and even harmful, to the country as being unpatriotic.
But I do see the actions of these Fred Phelps followers as unpatriotic, un-Christian, and hateful.
Religious zealotry is evil. I hope all those fuckers end up with genital leprosy. I really do.
If it’s the same group, I’ve seen some news about them… lunatic fringe. I realize we need to see this stuff and be aware that people this screwed up exist, but a lot of times I feel like the media gives these nut cases more airtime than they really merit.
That is sick and disgusting.
Scary and sad – and you’re damn right we’re patriots to protest this particular war.
It sickens me too. What kind of mentality have we raised here? Are these people from our schools? Our American families?
The future frightens me. I don’t like to think about it.
This is an enormous issue. I can’t imagine the mindset and the hatred that has been built up behind it. Is it even possible to change a person’s (who believes this) mind?
A year or so ago, Arizona went through a gas frenzy, not due to any shortages, just a busted pipeline, so gas was having to be trucked in. The mentality of people, the actions of people was astounding! Men literally shoving women out of the way to get gasoline first.
It showed me how “each man for himself” was established.

I’m from Kansas, he just protested our school last Tuesday, and no one can tell why he does the things he does. Basically.. hes an unsure-of-him-self-ba**ard.
His kids aren’t all that good either. They sphit on other children, try to beat up the “gay” kids, and do protests outside of their school..
